Did you know 24 September used to be Shaka Day in KZN? It marked the (believed) date in 1828 when King Shaka died. Every year, people still gather at the Shaka Memorial to pay their respects.
Fast-forward to 1996: the first draft of the Public Holidays Bill actually left 24 September off the list. The IFP (with strong Zulu support) pushed back, and Parliament struck a deal.
Result? The day got a new name and a bigger tent—Heritage Day—so all of South Africa can celebrate our cultures and stories together
Heritage Day is when South Africans celebrate the diverse cultural heritage that makes up the "rainbow nation". It is the day to celebrate the contribution of all South Africans to the building of the country.
As we as a community Celebrate this year, our logo represents our uniqueness and diversity, working together to achieve more for our families and for our community. Thank you for being part of our Village.
