Here’s the quickest, no-nonsense way to renew at Rossburgh DLTC (Durban):
1) Book or plan your visit
- Weekdays: Many renewals are handled as normal business at Rossburgh. You can also try the national NaTIS online booking portal for licence renewals (pick a KZN site if Rossburgh appears).
- Weekends: Rossburgh often opens on selected weekends for walk-in renewals (no bookings on weekends). Hours are typically 07:30–13:30 on announced dates. Card payments only. Bring an optometrist eye-test report. (Dates are posted monthly by KZN Transport and local media.)
2) What to take (documents & fees)
- Your SA ID/Passport and current driver’s licence card.
- Proof of residential address (≤3 months old). If the bill isn’t in your name, attach the owner’s affidavit.
- Eye-test result (you can test at the DLTC, but KZN weekend sessions specifically ask you to bring an optometrist report).
- Forms: DL1 (renewal) and NCP (change of address, if needed) — available at the DLTC / referenced on gov.za.
- Fees (KZN guideline): R250 for the renewal; + R90 if you want a temporary licence while you wait. Card payments only at weekend sessions. (Fees can change—these are the current KZN Transport figures.)
- Optional: Some centres still ask for 2 ID photos; most KZN sites capture digitally, Rossburgh does capture digitally.
3) On the day (what happens)
- Fill in DL1 (+ NCP if your address changed).
- Eye test (submit optometrist certificate if you already have one).
- Biometric capture & payment (card only at weekend sessions).
- Request a temporary licence if you need to drive before the card is ready. (KZN temp licence is R90.)
- Collection is usually ~4–6 weeks after processing; you’ll be notified to collect.
Handy contacts
- KZN Transport Call Centre: 0800 055 505 (also WhatsApp 060 105 5505) for provincial updates/queries.
