Here’s the gist:
- The Institute supports our community-led plan to preserve and reuse the church.
- Please submit a formal restoration application (include a photographic report and any original plans). The Heritage Officers Committee will assess the site, determine its grading, and decide if a Conservation Management Plan (CMP) or Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) is required.
- Because the church dates to 1957 (>60 years), it’s protected under Section 37 of the KZN Amafa & Research Institute Act 5 of 2018—no demolition, alterations or additions without prior written approval.
- There’s no joint process with eThekwini; the Institute processes applications within 10 working days.
- Application links/forms and the fee schedule are attached. They’re available for pre-consultation and can meet online to discuss requirements.
