A HISTORICAL landmark and protected building of more than 100 years old, the Hillary Scouts Hall has fallen into a dilapidated state.

According to the Ward 65 councillor, Samantha Windvogel, the building was popular back in the day and the authorities that ran it should have maintained it or, at least, let the building so it could generate an income for the City.
The exterior of the building is in ruin. The verge at the back of the property is overgrown and reaches nearly 2m in length. The trees are overgrown, and this is believed to have caused the boundary wall to fall over onto the neighbor’s garage.
Walking along the side of the building, the vegetation is overgrown with alien invasive plants and weeds that can be seen as a haven for snakes and rats.
On the inside of the building, the ceilings and floors have been stripped. There is no water or electricity in the building. The bathroom and kitchen have been stripped and left in a derelict state. Meanwhile, this historical building, which was the heart of the community, continues to fall deeper into a state of disrepair

We have called eThekwini Municipality to send someone to address the situation for a long time now, but to no avail however, as a community, we can work together to get the building restored to be used by the community as needed.
