A community-driven, street-led initiative to install street cameras within our community to create a deterrent for crime and criminal elements. We are currently running a pilot on Woodlands Avenue and now wish to share how we can achieve this across the precinct. Please read more Initiative: CCTV Smart Community
We want to audit and log all non-working streetlights in our area and escalate them to Ethwekwini municipality to fix so that our community can be well-lit at night, creating a deterrent for any criminal elements and to ensure safety for our residents. Please read here for our community driven plan - Initiative Streetlighting
To really make an impact in our community we need to create street committees, residents who take ownership of not just their properties but the street they live on as well. By doing so with your neighbours we can ensure we work together to get service delivery and to address issues expeditiously.
There are many potholes, backfills, and road maintenance that need to be completed in our area. This is predominantly caused by water leaks that are not covered. Where necessary, we would also like to apply for rumble strips or speed bumps to alleviate overspeeding in our precinct.
Decaying and unmaintained water infrastructure has led to unreliable water flow, increased leaks and low water pressure in many households across the community. We want to work with the municipality to find a resolution so as budget is allocated across Ethekwini our area can be prioritised for new water infrastructure.
We have Downland Park and Angle Park in our precinct that needs to be kept clean and restored to a place where people feel safe to enjoy these public spaces with their families. Ideally, Gym equipment, braai stands, and fenced off so these spaces can be a place for hearing the laughter of children. Read more about it Initiatives:Adopt a Park
To ensure that all candidates for for Ward 65 present their policies and manifestos, and engage us as a community. Taking into account the challenges we have. This allows us all to make an informed choice on the candidate that serves in this role beyond the local Government Elections in 2027. This includes ensuring we have maximum voter registration and voting in our district by being adequately prepared and educated on every candidate's policies rather than promises. We are collating & creating a Vendor/Service provider list for services such as Gardening Services, DSTV installs, Appliance repairs, and many others. This directory is created from recommendations from Community Members who have vetted these businesses and have proven track record of quality and affordability.
Our Local Business Directory is a collection of Businesses in our Area that we can support, our business owners in our area or that have businesses elsewhere. We succeed as a community by supporting local businesses because local is lekker.
We are creating a service-based directory for Non Profit Organisations, Community Based Organisations and other organisations that provide services such as Trauma, counselling, Legal advice, Mental Health, Animal Control and other services that can assist our community in times of needs.
Scouts hall stands derelict; however, security is being paid for by the municipality. Should this budget not be reallocated to fix the hall for the community to use? If not, then we want to engage the Ethekwini municipality on getting the hall fixed. However a clear path forward for the community's use in the future should be established. We would of course prefer to maintain and preserve the legacy of the building. Click here to read Initiatives: Scouts Hall
